RDA Proposes Rs121.7Bn Annual Development Program for the Coming Year

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has formulated an Annual Development Program (ADP) for the upcoming fiscal year, amounting to Rs121.7 billion.

Within the ADP, Rs118.64 billion has been allocated to ongoing development schemes such as Kachehri Chowk, Ring Road, Leh Expressway, and Flood Channel projects.

Additionally, Rs2.43 billion has been designated for new projects, including the feasibility study of a signal-free corridor from Coral Chowk through Peshawar Chowk to Motorway Chowk, as well as the construction of signal-free underpasses on Murree Road at Liaquat Bagh and Mareer Chowk.

Upon completing the planning phase, the ADP has been submitted to the Punjab government for fund approval. The feasibility study for the signal-free corridor project, from Coral Chowk via Kachehri Chowk and Peshawar Road to Motorway Chowk, will be concluded at an estimated cost of Rs800 million.

The total project cost is expected to reach Rs2 billion, while the underpasses on Murree Road at Liaquat Bagh and Murreer Chowk will be constructed at a cost of Rs350 million to facilitate a signal-free flow of traffic.

The ongoing development schemes have been incorporated into the ADP, with Rs6.422 billion allocated for the remodeling and expansion of Kachehri Chowk.

Although the project was initially included in the current year’s development program, the RDA surrendered the allocated funds of Rs1 billion, resulting in its inclusion in the upcoming year’s development program.

Furthermore, Rs2.496 billion has been set aside for land acquisition related to the Leh Expressway and Flood Channel Project, with an estimated construction cost of Rs5.9617 billion.

An additional Rs95 million will be utilized for the Project Management Unit (PMU) overseeing the Leh Expressway and Flood Channel project. Lastly, Rs2.69 billion has been earmarked for the Rawalpindi Ring Road project.

Once these projects receive approval from the Punjab Planning and Development (P&D) Department and funds are released, they can be implemented.
