RAWALPINDI: Asim Aziz, a suspect accused of committing fraud in various housing projects, has reportedly escaped from police custody in the twin cities.
The accused was arrested under the Terrorism Act by Kohsar Police and Phalgran Police station SHOs, however, he allegedly escaped from the police in the jurisdiction of Old Airport Police Station in Rawalpindi.
According to Sajid Butt of CTD Police, Airport Police registered a case against Asim Aziz under sections 353, 186, 148, 149, 225b, 224(2), 506(b), and 341, as he is accused of fraud in multiple housing projects.
The police officers and the SHOs of two police stations allegedly did not resist his escape or seek help from the department, which raised suspicions.
The sources suggest that the accused offered a heavy bribe to the police parties and was allowed to escape.
Asim Aziz had previously been booked in four cases of fraud related to Abdullah City, and a fresh case had been registered against him for a new society named Avalon City, which he launched allegedly under the patronage of two influential political figures.
Besides, Islamabad IGP Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan has stated that the matter is under investigation, and action will be taken against those responsible.
