RAWALPINDI: Residents of Satellite Town have expressed their worries about the increasing encroachments in the area and are urging the Rawalpindi Commissioner to take strict measures against the illegal occupation of state land.
Satellite Town, once known for its tranquility, has now become a hub of encroachers. Commercial Market, 6th Road, and New Katarian are all witnessing scenes similar to Raja Bazaar or Ganjmandi due to the unchecked rise of illegal state land usage.
As per the details, in F-Block of Satellite Town, the landlords have extended their boundaries by more than 50 feet, occupying state land and building gates at the edge of the road, leaving no space for pedestrians.
This has made it challenging for newcomers and buyers to distinguish between the actual area of a house with or without encroached land.
Additionally, a majority of shopkeepers in New Katarina Market have taken over the verandas in front of their shops, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road instead. Building by-laws dictate that the veranda space should be reserved for pedestrian movement.
In another example, a new hotel has been constructed at the end of 6th Road near the entrance. The owner has built an illegal structure, including a shed and an oven (tandoor), encouraged by the lack of action from the authorities.
The residents of Satellite Town are calling for significant action against encroachment by owners of commercial and residential properties.
