RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has announced plans to conduct a survey of both commercial and residential buildings in the city to determine if they were constructed according to approved building plans.
The primary objective of the survey is to improve the functioning of the building department, as a significant number of multi-story buildings in the city were erected without prior approval from the civic authority.
The RMC official in charge has stated that the survey will take three to four months to complete, following which fines would be levied on those who constructed commercial and residential buildings without obtaining the necessary approvals.
Additionally, the official noted that once the survey is complete, the RMC would be able to implement building regulations, as well as safety measures related to fire and other hazards, in accordance with the standards employed by developed countries.
