Safety Concerns Raised Over E-11 Flyover Construction in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A recent tweet from the account “Islamabadies” has drawn attention to the lack of safety precautions at the E-11 flyover construction site in Islamabad.

The tweet, which was addressed to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Noor ul Amin Mengal (Chairman CDA), highlighted the extreme hazards faced by workers who are carrying out their jobs without any safety measures in place.

The issue is not isolated to this particular project, as such negligence is prevalent across Pakistan, where the lives of the poor are often disregarded.

The tweet sparked a conversation among netizens, with many expressing their concern over the lack of labor safety precautions at the workplace.

Some questioned the authorities and the contractor’s responsibility, while others highlighted the importance of safety in construction projects, citing examples of international companies that have halted sites due to minor unsafe acts.

In contrast, the capital project in Islamabad is ongoing despite the ignored Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols.

In response to the concerns raised, the Chairman of the CDA has taken note of the situation. He assured that strict directions are being conveyed to address the issue. This response indicates a potential shift towards prioritizing worker safety in construction projects, a much-needed change in the industry.
