ISLAMABAD: The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and the real estate company Edge Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement SDG 11 (making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable) and SDG 13 (standards to make new urban constructions resilient through climate action).
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan has signed on to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to address Agenda 2030 and global sustainability issues.
The participants of the ceremony noted that Pakistan’s real estate sector is expanding at a rapid pace, and the demand for housing in a country of 220 million people will not be reduced.
Furthermore, unplanned and unorganized housing growth poses challenges to both the masses and the environment, the participants added.
This Memorandum of Understanding observed that it would encourage collaboration between think tanks and the private sector as this unplanned and unsustainable urban growth of housing societies devastates public goods and natural resources, putting pressure on the government.
