Senate Approves Amendments to CDA Ordinance

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior passed the Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Bill 2022. The legislation requires the CDA to finish projects within the specified timeframes.

Senator Fawzia Arshad introduced the bill to amend the CDA ordinance, which was chaired by Senator Mohsin Aziz.

The proposal attempted to enact a system that would bar the approval of new projects and plans until existing projects were finished.

According to the proposed change, such a procedure would allow funding to be issued only for projects that would be finished on time.

The proposed amendment states that such a procedure would enable funding to be awarded solely for tasks that would be finished on schedule.

The amendment seeks to make it necessary for the CDA and other executing agencies, including the federal government, to execute and implement development plans within a specified time period in order to prevent a loss to the public exchequer.

It is noteworthy that despite the passage of decades, several sectors of Islamabad are still incomplete. It’s only after a delay of more than 20 years that CDA has begun to develop some areas.
