Sindh Authorities Urged to Boost Property Tax Collection for Revenue Growth

KARACHI: The Additional Chief Secretary of Local Government in Sindh, Manzoor Ali Sheikh, has underscored the need for promptly opening more bank accounts for the payment of property tax challans.

During a review meeting focusing on property tax collection, Sheikh emphasized the importance of enhancing revenue generation and efficiency in tax collection.

He urged for the expedited process of property tax collection, emphasizing that all residential and commercial properties throughout the province should be targeted without any delays.

Moreover, Sheikh directed officials to expand the tax collection network to cover all districts, towns, and Union Councils.

In addition, Manzoor Shaikh instructed officers to ensure that property tax challans were delivered on time, with the correct addresses mentioned.

He emphasized that no challans should be sent to government buildings and institutions exempted from property tax.

The Excise and Taxation Department officials, during the briefing to the Additional Chief Secretary, highlighted that property tax collection functions have been formally transferred to the Local Government Department of Sindh with the previous Sindh Cabinet’s approval.

This department now oversees property tax collection in all districts of Sindh.

ACS LG Manzoor Ali Sheikh directed the timely settlement of dues for postal services responsible for delivering the challans.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining a comprehensive log of returned challans, including the reasons for their return.
