Sindh Government Initiates New Electric Bus Routes in Karachi

KARACHI: Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Minister of Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, announced on Tuesday the launch of two new electric bus routes in Karachi to improve travel facilities for the city’s residents.

In a press conference held at the Archives Complex, Memon highlighted the government’s historic housing project, aiming to provide houses to 2.1 million homeless individuals across the province.

He mentioned that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah recently distributed housing documents to deserving people in Larkana.

Furthermore, the provincial government has introduced electric, metro, and people’s bus services in various areas, including Karachi and Hyderabad, to facilitate public transportation.

The distribution of housing documents has already begun in several districts, including Jacobabad, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Dadu, Naushehro Feroze, and Shikarpur, with plans to extend the initiative to Khairpur, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, and Jamshoro in the coming days.

Moreover, the newly launched electric bus routes will cover distances of more than 50 kilometers, connecting Malir Cantt to Numaish and Malir Halt to Sadar, passing through Landhi and Korangi.

Memon also stated that the provincial government has taken steps to grant ownership rights to those who lost their homes during floods, ensuring that no one can reverse this decision made by the PPP administration.

Regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, Memon attributed its creation to former President Asif Ali Zardari and praised the PPP for providing solutions to the country’s challenges.

  1. Karachi is facing huge electrical shortage instead of installing new power plant why the Government of Sindh is interested in the buses network.
It is also narrated that Karachi doesn’t need buses. Karachi need infrastructure overhauling Master Planning and maintenance of roads and bridges.
But kick backs in new mega projects before devolving National and Provincial Assemblies are in question.
