KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has stated that the Sindh Katchi Abadi department leased over 200 plots of land designated for a park and playground in Federal B Area Block 5.
A counsel for the KMC stated in comments on a petition against encroachments on amenity plot ST-5/1 in FB Area before the SHC that the matter belonged to the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and the Sindh Katchi Abadi department.
The petitioners, Yousuf Jamal, and others stated in their petition that the plot was designated for a park and playground, but that due to the KMC and KDA’s active complicity, corrupt individuals had built camps there.
Besides, after reviewing the case record, a division bench of the high court led by Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi determined that the directorate Katchi Abadi and the District Municipal Corporation Central were necessary parties for the petition’s effective disposal and thus may be impleaded as respondents in the petition.
The SHC directed the petitioner’s counsel to include Katchi Abadi and DMC Central as respondents in the petition and served them with notices to file comments on the matter while directing the KDA to file information on all parks and playgrounds in Scheme 16 of the FB Area.
