Survey Begins for Construction of Dam on River Swat

PESHAWAR: The chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mahmood Khan, gave instructions to the authorities to survey building a dam on the River Swat.

While presiding over a provincial cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the CM stated that the dam would not only aid in the generation of electricity but also help reduce flood losses and reclaim the land that had become barren due to water scarcity.

The Special Assistant to KP Chief Minister on Information, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, also briefed the media on the decisions made by the provincial cabinet in this regard.

The barrister also stated that the cabinet approved changes to the composition of TransPeshawar’s Board of Directors, the establishment of the Provincial Flood Response Coordination Center (PFRCC), the de-notifying transfer of 6 Kanal and 19.5 Marlas land at Pabbi from the Housing Department and handing it over to the Irrigation Department.

Furthermore, the CM had instructed the relevant authorities to complete the ongoing survey of losses suffered by flood-affected people at the earliest.

Besides, he also ordered the removal of encroachments from river banks, streams, and water channels to prevent future losses and damages.
