MANSEHRA: The Balakot Tehsil Municipal Administration has issued notices to over 100 property owners for the construction of houses and commercial centers along the Kunhar River.

Tehsil municipal officer Sardar Saqib told the sources that the authority had served notices to such people who have built or are still building houses and shops along Kunhar River in its 200-foot area.

He stated that the Peshawar High Court had imposed a ban on all types of construction along rivers and streams.

In response to that order, his department had served notices to such owners, cautioning legal action against perpetrators, he explained.

“The provincial government has also decided to impose a ban on new construction along rivers and streams because the recent flash floods caused massive devastation in the province,” Saqib explained.

“The encroachers should observe the protocols and voluntarily remove all such structures built along the Kunhar River,” he added.

It is to note here that the recent flash floods washed away hotels and commercial buildings in Balakot tehsil as well as in other parts of the province.
