WCLA Safeguards History: 15 Historic Sites in Lahore Now Protected Heritage Properties

LAHORE: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has taken a momentous step in preserving the city’s rich architectural and cultural heritage by officially declaring 15 historically significant sites and havelis as heritage properties.

The decision was reached during a recent session of the Heritage Conservation Board, where 18 properties were thoroughly assessed for their historical value.

According to sources, the properties now protected under the provisions of the WCLA Act 2012 encompass a range of fascinating structures, including:

  • Nisar Haveli
  • Noori Building
  • Gurdwara Janam Astan
  • Samadi Bhai Mani Singh
  • Baoli Bagh
  • Government Rang Mahal School
  • Jain Hall
  • Historical House (Qamar Manzil)
  • Deputies House, Shamsheer Singh Haveli
  • Haveli Wajid Ali Shah
  • Tehsil Haveli Makhzanul Aloom Building
  • Khalifa Manzil
  • Sabeel Wali Gali

Furthermore, the selection process involved meticulous research and analysis by the conservation board, identifying these 15 sites as valuable components of Lahore’s cultural heritage and architectural significance.

With this recent addition, the total number of heritage properties declared under the WCLA Act 2012 has now reached an impressive count of 52.

Kamran Lashari, Director General of WCLA, emphasized the department’s commitment to benefitting the local community through preservation efforts.

He stated that preserving these historical sites not only safeguards our past but also creates opportunities for the present and future generations to connect with their roots.
