Telenor Pakistan has become the largest Automated Meter Reading (AMR) solutions provider in the country with an on-going deployment of 17,000 smart meters in five cities of Pakistan including Islamabad, Hyderabad, Multan, Lahore and Peshawar.

Automatic meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically collecting consumption, diagnostic, and status data from water meter or energy metering devices (gas, electric) and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analysing.

Automated Smart Meters have been deployed by Telenor in five distribution companies in collaboration with International Resources Group, an American enterprise which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Engility Corporation.

The Automated Smart Meter deployment will help reduce distribution losses, electricity theft and increasing labor productivity by automating monitoring, meter reading and load management.

Talking about the impact of the project, Irfan Wahab, Chief Marketing Officer, Telenor Pakistan said, “As a socially responsible company, Telenor Pakistan is committed to providing consumers with innovative services and benefits of technology through M2M technology and green solutions. Automated Smart meters are going to be instrumental in enhancing working efficiencies of energy companies while consumers will also benefit from this with better load management in the long run. Becoming the largest AMR solutions provider is a matter of great pride for us and will continue to work towards innovative M2M solutions that have a positive impact on the lives of our customers.”

Telenor Pakistan is the one of the largest mobile data connectivity provider in the country and claims to be a leader in providing dedicated M2M (Machine to Machine) based connectivity solutions to business customers nationwide.

  • Another inovative solution from Telenor. Telenor Pakistan maintaining their market leadership position! welldone TP.

  • First they should improve their mobile phone service than think of these things. No less than three redials are always required to connect a single call within urban areas of twin cities. I fear electricity and gas consumer will also suffer the same fate of incorrect/over billing owing to one of the worst mobile networks i.e. Telenor.

    • have u ever tried contacting them for resolution ? my experience with them regarding my issues has always been good. May be they can help u as well.

    • hahaha if they are the worst then they wouldn’t have won this big contract of 17,000 meters. You must be mobilinker. Pathetic

  • In this caseTelenor is just a connectivity provider for distribution companies. AMR and Smart Grids are new and advanced technologies related to electrical distribution systems which are being deployed by the American resource group in Pakistan. I think in future our electrical distribution companies will adopt these systems to minimize line losses ,theft and overall better management of load.

    • This has been done around the world quite effectively. With data from smart meters, you can basically identify patterns of usage, and using statistical analysis identify where electricity theft is taking place.

  • I have heard its won by a very talented resource at Telenor Pakistan which won KESC Meters contract also.
