Huawei Launches Y7 Prime 2018 with Dual Cameras

Huawei is bringing yet another mid-range phone in its ever-expanding portfolio, with the new Y7 Prime (2018).

As you may have noticed with the “(2018)”, this isn’t the first Y7 phone released by Huawei. The first one was released last year, with low-end specifications. This year Y7 prime gets an 18:9 screen, dual cameras and more.

Let’s dive straight into it:

Design and Display

Blue <a target=Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 Front and Back Look" width="520" height="520" />

The design feels fairly mainstream at this point, with little to differentiate it from other mid-range phones from Huawei (Mate 10 Lite, Honor series etc). It does come with minimal bezels and will be available in Rose Gold and Blue colors.

The display is a large 6” 2:1 unit, though, it comes with HD+ (1440 x 720) resolution. The screen is a slight upgrade from last year’s Y7 Prime, which had a 5.5-inch 720p display.

Finishing things on the design end is a fingerprint sensor on the back, probably unchanged from last year.

Internals and Storage

Under the hood, you get a middling Snapdragon 430 processor, down from last year’s Snapdragon 435. There are two RAM/storage combinations: 2GB/16GB, and 3GB/32GB.

It runs Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0, which is standard for other Huawei phones as well.

Camera(s)

The dual-lens setup on the back consists of a 13 MP and a 2 MP shooter with a LED flash, likely to help create a bokeh effect with the second lens. This is also an upgrade from last year’s single 12 MP lens.

The one on the front comes with an 8 MP resolution, same as the 2017 model.

Battery

The battery capacity is set at 3000 mAh (4,000 mAh in Y7 Prime 2017), though, it may not come with quick charging.

Pricing and availability details are not known as of now, though, in all likelihood, it will cost around $200.
