Google+ Lands in Beta, Open for Everyone

In just less than 90 days Google+ has entered into it’s beta version from open field trial. During this they made some 91 changes plus 9 changes, including some major ones, just today.

Here’s what they added today:

  • Hangouts on your phone
  • Hangouts On Air
  • Hangouts with extras
  • Hangouts APIs
  • Search in Google+
  • Signups open for Everyone

After open sign-up facility, Search is arguably the best thing that Google+ announced today. With the search bar available at top, you can search for your and friends’ old posts, sparks, pages from web and above all the people (that you may want to add in your circles).

BTW you can filter search results by either ‘Best of’ or ‘Most recent’ or for just ‘The people’.

Hangouts, live multi-user video chat facility, has gone way better with mobile support, yes you can hangout via mobile. For the purpose, Google has updated it’s Android app for Google+ with hangout support. iOS app is likely to be updated in next few days.

Hangouts On Air is another interesting feature to mention, which allows you to make your broadcast open for anyone. So anyone with a link will be able to see and listen to you (plus 9 other friends of yours that can join a hangout by-default).

So it appears that Google+ is gearing up with all new set of functionalities, however, Facebook is fast catching all the features offered by Google+ in addition to it’s already available winning feature.

In short, the war is on, and social media users can expect more to come, or maybe never-ending list of features in their streams and feeds.
