PTA Employees Protest at D-Chowk Against Abduction of Members

All employees of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, along with civil society and officials of telecom companies, protested today against illegal try for abduction of Mr. Nasrul Karim Ghaznavi, the member finance and Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, the member technical by armed and uniformed men on February 4th, 2013.

Except Mr. Sajjad Latif Awan, all directors, DGs and entire staff of PTA gathered today at D-Chowk to protest against the illegal and un-authorized raid of around a dozen men to harass and possibly abduct the members of authority.

Mr. Wahaj-us-Siraj, CEO of Nayatel and Amina Masood Janjua, a known civil figure,  were also seen at the protest.

Protestors demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the incident including Khawaja Siddique Akbar, the Secretary of Ministry of Interior — who had lead the raid — and DSP of Secretariat Police Station.

Telecom industry is largely distressed over the incident and said that such violent action against regulator’s top officials is an open threat to industry. They said that government has done every possible thing to diminish the telecom sector but this has to end now.

Industry fears that there possibly is a hidden agenda behind all this. They said that government must take neccessary measures to control the situation or they must get ready to face the social and ecnomic impacts.
