An Emirates SkyCargo aircraft made an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport after developing an engine problem during flight.
The cargo plane was travelling from Osaka, Japan, to Dubai when the technical fault occurred.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, the aircraft’s engine suddenly developed a problem while it was flying towards the United Arab Emirates.
The captain immediately contacted Karachi Air Traffic Control and requested permission to make an emergency landing.
Air traffic controllers granted clearance.
The Emirates SkyCargo aircraft then landed safely at Karachi airport.
No injuries or damage were reported during the emergency landing.
Airport authorities moved the cargo aircraft to a parking bay after it landed.
Technical teams began inspecting the plane to determine the cause of the engine malfunction.
It was not immediately clear when the aircraft would resume its journey to Dubai.
The flight was operated by Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates airline.
The emergency landing came one week after an aircraft operated by a Pakistani private cargo company crashed while travelling from Sharjah to Karachi.
Five crew members were on board the aircraft at the time of the crash.
The latest incident ended safely after the pilot acted quickly and coordinated with Karachi air traffic controllers.
The emergency landing once again highlighted the importance of timely cockpit decisions, effective communication with air traffic control and immediate technical inspections.
