Twitter has finally introduced two-step authentication for its users to enhance security.
For those who aren’t familiar, two-step authentication means that Twitter users – after inputing username and password – will be sent a unique passcode on their phones via SMS for every login. This passcode will be used as second password before users are actually logged-in the to the website.
A confirmed email address and a verified mobile phone number is a must to use this feature.
Here is how you can enable Two-Step Authentication for Twitter:
- Visit your account settings page.
- Select “Require a verification code when I sign in.”
- Click on the link to “add a phone” and follow the prompts.
- After you enroll in login verification, you’ll be asked to enter a six-digit code that we send to your phone via SMS each time you sign in to twitter.com.
Currently allowed third-party apps will continue to work with two-step authentication. However, for adding new apps – with two-step authentication enabled – users can go to app-page to request for a temporary password for app access.
Pakistani users must keep this in mind that after you enable two-step authentication, there’s no way to login without passcode verification sent to you via SMS, even if your cellular network is offline.
Her koi doosron ki copy ma laga huwa ha :) Google Starts it First
Bat copy ki nahi hai balkay security ki hai.
Laiken imagine these type of every sms can handle these millions of requests.
It means I will have to give up Twitter finally.
wtf?
This is Great Security, Love to use this, I have activated this in my Gmail, Facebook and Now twitter also,
it say this when i try to activate…no use of it
The phone number you gave us, +92 333xxxxx, is currently used by another Twitter account. Only one account can be used with a mobile phone at a time.
Karachi_Times using it right now …. so that i can get their updates
It was a much needed requirement from Twitter since Google, Facebook, Apple, LastPass, DropBox etc have given this option to the users. But I think Twitter must offer App generated code option for mobile phone too. It is little risky to wait for SMS every time. Google, Dropbox, Lastpass etc gives this option to register mobile phone through Google Authenticator…why Twitter can’t register for same app. Good luck and thanks Twitter for better security.
hmmm Interesting…
