Which Services Will You Use with 3G / 4G?

Mobile Phone Usage

Pakistan’s mobile subscribers have been waiting for some time to experience high speed mobile internet on their smartphones and other 3G enabled devices.

Now, barring any unforeseen complications, cellular operators are all set to tussle amongst each other to win 3G and 4G licenses.

The 3G and 4G license auction is planned for the 23rd April; hopefully, the ultimate winners of this auction will be the mobile subscribers.

In most parts of the world, 3G and 4G services are used to stream videos, video calling and remaining in touch with the world while on the go. However, with a ban on YouTube, video streaming might be a challenge in Pakistan, but of course there are alternatives like Dailymotion.

We at ProPakistani would like you to tell us, through the poll set up below, for what purpose you will be using your 3G service; or if you are not planning to avail this service at all.

Also share with us your thoughts, in the comments section below, on how you think 3G service will be useful for Pakistan’s mobile users.

                • Muhammad Aamir

                  Hmm…!! Good Luck :)

                • Raees Khan

and we hope that ptcl will give us more speed on price of 1mbs….hope

              • Bilal Habib

                dear i am using Evo 3G 3.1mbps

                • Muhammad Aamir

In my area, there is no EVO signal tower. No PTCL DSL,no Wateen and no Wi-Tribe.But all the five operator’s signal strength is above 95% :)

                  • Osama

then you win the 3g/4g license good luck…..

                • test

          • mazz

Kia koi new operator aa raha ha k ni

    • Osama

      liked……

    • ANONYMOUS

i think youre using WARID hahaha

  • Adeel Azhar

according to a survey only 5% people of Pakistan own smartphones & that too mostly 3G enabled. its my thought.

    • telco

You mean currently approximately 7 Million mobiles are confirmed 3G supported. I think its good start for 3G operators. As per my observation now every mobile above price tag of 4K are 3G equipped and I think at least 20 millions phones are 3G enabled.

    • moti

      Your thought is wrong!

  • Shahid Saleem

Same ones I use now, most important is Google Maps.

    • guest

Mujey tu lag raha hai tum bathroom janey k liye bhi google maps hi use karo gay.

      • Muhammad Aamir

        Think +ve Brother!

      • Javed Khan

Ap mujhe experienced lagte hain is matter mein :p

      • Shahid Saleem

You meant to make a joke, but in reality if good public bathrooms were on google maps in Lahore, it could help make the city cleaner. Now, if only the CM could care more about public sanitation…

      • moti

yaar aap to nihayat he ghatiya insaan niklay…

  • Rizwan

    Viber for all calls.

    • moti

      shame on you!

      • Shahid Saleem

Why shame? Why would anyone feel shame for saving money?

Due to stupid policies of PTA there are no Pakistani services like Viber. Anti VoiP policies are now going to screw the local mobile providers.

  • Arslan Ali Qureshi

Well there is something called a proxy for using youtube

    • Shahid Saleem

Ha ha well let’s hope it is unblocked by launch time.

    • moti

      really?
tell me more about it. -_-

  • Ahmad Khan Sabri

What will be done if I have 3G or even 4G enabled phone, coz I am sure that I will not get this service in next 10 years owing to I am proudly living in KPK. hahahahaha……

    • moti

      dil chota n karo bhai
dene wala jab b deta, deta chappar phaar k

  • Jamil Khan

i am a question … with 3g or 4g can we make direct video call from smartphones … or we need some thirdparty apps ???

like iPhone we have facetime and android hangout but both can not communicate with each other …

  • Abu Khuzaima

i wud like to know thru 3/4 G services, which CNG station has less cars in queue, which road has less traffic at particular time, navigation services, which ATM is working/faulty, get appointment of some doctor, etc. I think this wat 3/4 G is all about!!

    • moti

Good question. You got a point from me.

  • desprt343

any idea about 3g data plans?

    • qaisar Khan

When i was searching on internet one company in India is giving 2mbps speed 15 gb data usage limit and is charging 1800 rupees for that.

      • Arslan Ali Qureshi

        We are fucked.

  • Harry

    .
    .

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    to vote only :)

    • moti

oye ye kya chawal mari hay?

  • Syed Waqar Hussain

I would use for all above stated reasons, including navigation. But wait who is going to use navigational apps even mobile phones in Karachi while go? :-D

    • Badar

Yeah poor kom 200 rs mahina me navigation use nhi krti aur halat dekhi hai k woh 2000 me use kre gi

      • Muhammad Aamir

Hello Brother! Just 1Gb is enough to use navigation for the entire month. And 1GB data will be 250 to Rs.300.I know at the time of start, the packages will be expensive but later it will be cheap (because competition will be tough among cellular operator).Think +ve Yar!

        • Qaisar Khan

No one gb is nothing 5 gb is good one if they offer 5Gb for 500 rupees per month then its Good !

          • Muhammad Aamir

Yeah! You are right! I was talking only about navigation, just 1GB is enough to use it.But If you want to use other stuff then more data plan will be needed. I hope data plan will be affordable.

        • PK-BRO

          you joking with us 1gb are so less with speed of 5Mbps or higher..1500rs 25GB 2500rs 50GB 800 OR 1000RS 5GB…AND THINK ABOUT TAX ON 100RS 25GST..

          • Muhammad Aamir

May Be or May Not Be!! Somewhat Agree :) I was talking about the future price brother. 1GB for Rs.1000 may be started price but with the passing of time, the price will not remain constant.

    • Dani

while siting in their car… ;)

  • salman

Guys, don’t get excited by 3G or 4G.. Telecom companies are only here to loot the general and innocent public by these attractive packages and senseless commercials. What you guys will do if these companies introduce package with heavy cost?? it is clearly not for general public to get benefited with this 3G or 4G.

    • qaisar Khan

Yar agar inhon ne 3G di aor package boht mehnge hoe to boht dill dukhe ge :(

      • Shahid Saleem

You think they will launch too expensive packages so that no one will use them? They are going to pay MORE THAN $200 million over the next few years for the licence. It’s in their interest to get more users, not restrict prices so only a few can afford it.

Of course it will cost more than EDGE packages, but not sky high as some people believe.

        • Alamdar Raza

Simple growth and consistency tactics in the market.

    • raheel gill

general public kre gi bhi kiya 3g use kr k, salon ne besharmi hi dikhani hoti hai . Fox news ka article to sub ko yaad hi hoga

      • Qaisar Khan

nai yar men to positive use karun ga niat paki per nojwaan mustakbil ka maloom nai Allah istaqamat de Ameen

  • Muhammad Ather

I will use 3g service mostly for video steaming (tutorial videos). Another good use for me is to watch live TV in order to keep update myself in current affairs anytime.

  • Zahid Butt

    for the video calls :)

    • Khan

      Good :)

  • Muhammad Aamir

I will use 3G for education purpose. In the subject of Biology and Chemistry, there are many topic which you cannot understand without animation. In my area, there is no fast internet available. That is why I am extremely waiting for 3G and 4G.

    • qaisar Khan

Ap ki niat achi but yar 3G boht mehngi hogi ap net per dosre mumalik men 3G packages dekh sakte ho

  • tharkee

yar totay koyee nehi dekhay ga :/

  • Javed Khan

If pricing is competitive along with reasonable caps (no stupid 1GB caps) and speed in between 2-5 Mbps, I’ll ditch DSL for good.

    • Shahid Saleem

The latency will be worse than DSL.

  • Guest

    Started witnessing already :)

    • Ashraf

Yeh telenor ki 3g service chooron ki tarha raat ki tareekhi main ati hai aur din kay aujalay say pehlay chalee jate hai :)

    • Your daddy

      Where in Karachi ?

      • Ashraf

        Khalid bin waleed Road

  • Ashraf

    This survey has missed
the import point that is “business purpose”. We Pakistani can never
use the technology for good this is not i am saying, this is what survey result
    is revealing.

  • Engineer Nazir Malik

At present every one is talking about 3G / 4G but frankly speaking that within
Pakisatn 2-3% peoples having true awareness about these systems and remaining
internet users are just purposeless and time passing. Cited below definations
may be enough to understand this state of the are technology.
    3G
3G, short for third Generation, is the third generation of mobile telecommunications
technology This is based on a set of standards used for mobile devices and mobile telecommunication use services and networks that comply with the International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) specifications by the International Telecommunication Union. 3G finds application in wireless voice telephony,
mobile Internet access, fixed wireless Internet access, video calls and mobile TV. 3G telecommunication networks support services that provide an information ransfer rate of at least 200 kbit/s. Later 3G releases, often denoted 3.5G and 3.75G, also provide mobile broadband access of several Mbit/s to smartphones and mobile modems in laptop computers. This ensures it can be applied to wireless voice telephony, mobile Internet access, fixed wireless Internet access, video calls
    and mobile TV technologies.

    4G
A new generation of cellular standards has appeared approximately every tenth year
since 1G systems were introduced in 1981/1982. Each generation is characterized by new frequency bands, higher data rates and non-backwards compatible transmission technology. The first release of the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard does not completely fulfill the ITU 4G requirements called IMT-Advanced. First release LTE is not backwards compatible with 3G, but is a pre-4G or 3.9G
technology however sometimes branded 4G by the service providers. Its evolution
LTE Advanced is a 4G technology. WiMAX is another
technology verging on or marketed as 4G.

    • Latif Malik

janab you have been living in a cave? People coming to Propakistani are light years ahead of your claimed understanding of technology. Copy / paste marny sy koi engineer nahi ban jata. Your comment actually shows that you are miserably ignorant of these “new” technologies but cant help but be an attention whore.
Attaching nonsense title of “engineer” does not make you more educated and insightful than the rest of us. You may be a motor mechanic/mistri for all I care. Actually, its funny. This trend died a decade ago. Gone are the days when doctors and engineers were status symbols. No one squats about them any more except a clueless few like you.

  • Muhammad Babar

Will 3g work in all over pakistan or just start in few cities?

    • Abu Khuzaima

they’l start with bigger cities and slowly move to smaller ones.

  • Pakistan main peak hours main i think 4G bhi nakam ho jaiy ga jaisay baqi howay hain.

  • Patriotic layman

The usage of these services will depend on the tariff and limits.

  • Taha Ali

We are pakis and we are fooling our selfes.. its no problem even 4G come in to the market the bandwidth they gonna give will be real low.. their tactics we all know very well :(

  • Muhammad Ibrahim

I will use 3g InshAllah for Navigation and video streaming.

  • shahid

I think telenor but depend on the speed which is more important. If any servuce provider give maximum speed and best service i will go there.

  • Badar

Pakistanion se 2g to use nhi hota 3g lon ly ga, yeah pakistani 200 ka pkg nhi ly sakte aur wifi per net mangte hain tp kiya 2000 ka 3g and 5000 ka 3g ly lain gay, yeah mulk jahilon ka lagta hai mujhe

    • Dani

sharam ati he tmhn? apne mulk ki burai krte hue? internet pe beth k?

  • Qaisar Khan

    Maze Ki Baat:
Jub 3G aye gi to PTCL ko majboran package saste karne parren ge jiss se hum sub ko faida hoga so still keep on using ptcl internet

  • Ryzvonusef

    Google maps!

No more “Kidhar hay aap ka ghar”

Feed data in map, and let it Navigate :D

  • hasan

I m from the Telecom field and remember that 3G and 4G does not have good future in Pakistan. Reason1: Arriving very late. Reason2: This country knows what internet/broadband is.

    • Latif Malik

When this circus ends, “This country knows what internet/broadband is” will be left standing on a huge sign board. Kudos for summing it all up for me. :)

  • saliraza

Its very strange that Social Media is competing with Education. And Video call is on top.. That’s why were are far behind form other country never focus on education.

    • Malik Latif

Period :D hahaha. I thought periods are monthly. But you have 1.5 hours of a period only. wow. I respect that.
And how do you refresh yourself after the period? Shouldn’t you be taking a bath instead of using internet?
Puttar apki baat parh kar yaqeen ho chala hai k 3g tak rasaee iss quom ko mazeed nikamma aur wela bana degi.

    • Eli Ehsan

hahahah!! Best one! Inshallah Brother.. aap ki saari ZAROORATEN 3G poori karega… Madani channel ki karaamat hi aisi hai..

  • farrukh

pheley sab ne rona machaya howa tha ke 3g nahi hai , ab jab araha hai to kese ne use nahi karne ???

    • Muhammad Aamir

Only 2% people will not use 3G. Because they don’t have 3G enable phones or other reason may be a price. Many people are thinking that 3G and 4G price will touch to the sky. But the competition among the five operators will be tough and price will flow down gradually.

  • Yasir

    3G , 4G experience will be awesome.
Switch on the data , download documents fast , google anything , make calls , mms , internet , videos , facebook , linkedin , e-mails. anything anywhere you want.

  • Muhammad Zohaib Siddiq

I will INSHA’ALLAH use 4G if it will be in my budget but I fear about price.. I think it will be around 2K per month for 3G and 3K per month for 4G or even more.

  • ay

    For watching tottay :p

  • Not everyone can afford 3G/4G as their prices will be sky high and than their is a thought if someone can have smartphone he/she sure can.. :/

As for myself I don’t think I’ll have a smartphone in next 2/3 years

  • SaneDiscus

I say add the catwgory of “visiting adult websites” because lets be honest…a lot of that goes on too.

  • Khan
