Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has directed all licensed Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) to send free SMS flood alerts to the public in the affected districts of Punjab.

A statement issued by the regulator on Sunday said that these flood alerts via SMS will be sent to mobile phone users in certain areas of the country in the wake of heavy floods in Punjab.

PTA said that Federal as well as the Punjab Government had approached the regulator to run SMS broadcast messages for the timely awareness of residents in the flood-hit areas.
