PTCL Doubles DSL Speeds for 4MB Customers

PTCL has upgraded its DSL broadband speeds for 4MB customers to 8MB without any extra charge.

An announcement posted on PTCL’s website says that all 4MB DSL customers — who are on feasible lines that can support this upgrade — are automatically upgraded to 8MB DSL broadband speed. All such customers who are upgraded will enjoy double broadband speed without any extra charge till January 31st, 2015.

Starting February 1st, 2015 these upgraded customers will be charged Rs. 2,500/Month till 30th Jun 2015. Then from July 1st 2015, upgraded subscribers will have to pay Rs. 2,999/Month for their 8MB broadband.

Those customers who wish not to pay extra will have to down-grade their speeds back to 4MB plan by calling helpline — and they must do this or otherwise they will be charged extra from dates mentioned above.

We believe this isn’t the right way of offering the customers a benefit, as they are upgraded without consent for a limited time and then they have to take an action after a certain duration to avoid extra charge.

Here are more details about the promotion:

  • 4Mbps Subscribers upgraded to 8 Mbps will enjoy the speed without any extra charges till 31st January 2015.
  • Unlimited Downloads during promotion period.
  • Subscriber continuing with the promo after promotion period will pay discounted charges of Rs. 2,500/Month from 1st Feb 2015 till 30th Jun 2015.
  • From 1st Jul 2014, Upgrade subscribers will pay Rs. 2,999/Month.
  • 200-GB download cap will be in place from 1st Feb 2015
  • Additional GBs at Rs. 100 per GB for extra data usage.
  • Billing Cap at Rs. 4,999/Month for 8Mbps — after this virtually unlimited downloads are allowed
  • All customer who do not wish to continue with 8Mbps will have to Opt out by calling 1236 and reverting back to 4Mbps.

  • these baffoons should first fix their already dead connections, un-reponsive customer care, extremely useless internet connections rather than thinking of upgrading their speeds

    • Double the speed, Double the Disconnection, one thing more pathetic, they are offering fixed 1mb UPLINK speed on 4mb to 16 mb packages.

      • It’s not even 1Mb. It’s usually below 512kb and goes close to 1Mb when it feels like doing so, which isn’t very often.

      • Regarding uplink I think it’s the same everywhere. My cousin has got 50Mbps connection at his home and his uplink is between 2-3Mbps

        • He is on VDSL package of 50MB, May be he is getting 2-3 Mbps Uplink, but according to PTCL 1236 Helpline, they said to me that they are offering fixed 1mb Uplink speed to every DSL/VDSL Packages. If you need 2MB fixed UPLINK you need to order cooperate BDSL which cost PKR 56k monthly.

    • aub itny bhe bury nhn hain mery bhai main multan ma 4mb use kar rha hu mjhe to kbhe problem ni hue aur agr ho to sedha exchange jata hu aur problem solve hojati ha .

      • Your opinion is good towards their service because you are getting you paying for, but customers like me with old lines cannot get speed more then 1mb. so ptcl first should give head to upgrading their infrastructure to equally satisfy customers.

        • dear ap pehly helpline call karo un ko kaho mjhe fiber ka connection chaye phr exchange jao aur kaho mery number ko fiber pe convert karo aur na karain to jo line man ha piyar se kaho aur na manay to sdo k pas jao aur sedha sedha bol do bhai lineman ko jitni rishwat chaye ma de deta hu par us se kaho mera kam kr dy phr wo khud e line man aur dsl walo ko sedha kar dy ga agli bar problem bhe ni hoge………. mery case ma it worked

          • dear. main ye sare kaam kar chukka hun. exchange bhi gia hon, sdo se bhi mila hun and line man se bhi. jab fiber line hi na ho tu lineman rishwat lekar kia jadoo kar le ga?? simple they are not interested to solve this issue. PTCL ki monopoly hai is liye un ko pata hai ke customers ko majboor ho kar in ki poor service par hi guzara karna hai. is liye unhen customers ki koi fikar nahi. un ka business acha ja raha hai aur har saal billions bana rahe hain.

            • sai keh rahy ho yr app,in kay upnay private telnet servers hen koi it department ya server management mein friend ho apka to ussay pata karskty hen hum kay internet traffic ko inho ny upny liye kesy route kiya hua hy usi par sb sy fast speed ati hy,j

          • oye fibre pe connection maat karo ye naya jhol hy inho ny sirf exchange mein moti fibre wire lagai hy jub k baki copper>fibre>phir exchange mein jaati hy humary ghar sy exchange takreeban 11km dour hy or directory sy bhi 8km ,to humien fibre pe karwany ka koi faida nhe hoga, jubkay jis ka ghar exchange kay sath hy sirf ussi ko faida hoga

      • I have heard stories from both sides and unfortunately I am one of those who are continuously being tortured by PTCL for the last 2 years. Their DSL service is pathetic in our area because of frequent disconnections (it doesn’t even remain live for 5 minutes straight; and no, this is not exaggeration), and it becomes super-slow during night-time. I bought a 3.1 Mbps Evo dongle but didn’t care to check its signal strength in my area beforehand, so I am stuck with it too now with it being not even capable enough to load a web-page let alone do heavy downloads.

The only way I am able to use the DSL now is to put the landline phone’s receiver off from cradle. I have no idea how it works but as long as the phone line is busy, I do not face any DSL disconnections. I’ll appreciate comment/suggestions from anyone knowledgeable enough on the matter.

  • bhai in ke oper case to banta he na apne customers ko bilawaja tang kar rahe hen saath mein jurmana bi lagna chahey mental tourture he ye jab pehla bill wasool hojaey 8 mb ke hisab se tb user ko pata chalta he k us ke saath kia huwa tab tak doosre maheene ke bi 15 din nkal chuke hote hen aur down karne mein alag se ek hafta nkal jate hein sarasar zulm he ye GO NAWAZ GO

    • 3G is still in early stage, its going to take by the end of this year for all operators to cover at least the most major cities, once that is done then they will move towards smaller cities, after that some country sides.. it’s going to take a while for everyone to have 3g and for us to finally dump PTCL forever

  • Did that billing cap reduce from 7000 per month? DID IT REALLY? :o

If thats the case then 5k is actually a much much better amount for an 8Mbps.

  • PTCL 4MB subscriber here. I’m seeing no speed upgrades (my line supports 8MB btw). Is anyone else getting the 8MB speed?

  • It is good to hear something from PTCL too. I am 4 mb subscriber but not getting any additional speed. Is it area bound or for all over Pakistan?
One line in your details area a bit confusing or typing mistake. I mean it should be “From 1st July 2015, Upgrade subscribers will pay Rs. 2,999/Month” instead of “From 1st Jul 2014, Upgrade subscribers will pay Rs. 2,999/Month.”

  • We got new fiber lines in our area few months back.. now lines cannot support 4 MB.. Maybe the management is not really aware of the ground reality.. they wake up some fine morning and announce some unreal offer.. and that also against even the rules of morality.. I WANT DEATH OF PTCL.. we will have better choices after end of monopoly!

  • I already have an 8mb connection and it dies from 7pm to 2am to a max of 2mbps. Lodging complaints at the customer care and pta didn’t help either. Service is dead in this country. All I witness is just lip service :/

      • bhai meray meri line bilkul stable hai cuz lineman apna yaar hai…din main theek rehta hai raat ko pagal hojata hai…abhi bhi 1mbps aarahi hai speed. there’s an issue at exchange end which they are simply not willing to fix, that’s what my contact in the broadband department at my exchange says.

      • 200 GB is extremely low for an 8 Mb connection. Almost every next-gen game is upwards of 50 GB in size. That means you’ll be able to download only four games in an entire month. And what about HD video streaming, movie downloading, Skyping e.t.c Won’t be able to do any of that, you’ll have to be satisfied with your four games.

  • So what’s gonna happen of customers who switched to 8 Mbps @ 2,999/month which was gonna be capped at 100 GB from January? This is so confusing.. screw you PeeTCL.

  • What’s with these Automatic/Unannounced Upgrades with PTCL & if you do upgrade a segment of subscribers then What’s the point of TIME LIMIT?! Shady practices galore here…

  • Its pathetic. 8mb ka tariff lo ya 16mb ka Uplink speed sirf 1 mb fixed hi milti ha. is se acha tau mobilink ka 3g ha kamaz kum wo upload 2mb tak de rhy hein :

  • Noticed the speed jump and right away checked propakistani for an announment. My house is near ptcl exchange (Bahria Town Lahore) The SNR hovers around 45+ even on a copper line so thats why I’m getting consistent 8mb speed. Even 24mbps won’t be an issue for such a quality line. So the trick is to move your houses within 0.5 km radius of exchange and you’ll become future proof.

    • “So the trick is to move your houses within 0.5 km radius of exchange and you’ll become future proof.”
you want us to sell our houses and purchase the house near PTCL exchange so that we can have 8 Mb connection. lol

    • bht acha idea dia ha k apna ghar PTCL Exchange kay pass shift kar lein :D Faida kia download ka jab upload speed hi 1mb fixed rakhi hoi ha.

    • Bohot achay ab hum ptcl k paas ghar lain wese mera ghar exchange k paas hi hai 8 mbps internet chala k aya hun 2 mahinay mast raha lekin jab aik do din main 10 gb se zada download kia to speed 4 mbps pe chali gai aur zada download kia to 2 mbps phir 1 week download nahi kia to speed wapas a gai aesi speed ka kya karna agar hum kuch download hi na kar sakain

  • can you guys please post a Source link at the end of each article like all other tech sites. Something that points to the official page / tweet etc where this was announced?

  • seriously PTCL? this is your best move to compete? 3 months at same rate then for 5 months your charging 2500 and 3000 after that ends and on top of that, i hate that bloody cap, bandwidth and data are not scares resources that you ppl need to control, it’s not like we only get 10 Million GB for Pakistani Internet-users to consume for a month and you have to put cap on it to make sure its used well? WTF!
There are two category of ppl who use internet, first who consume lot of media online with downloads and uploads of big enough files to reach 200GB before every month ends.. and others who don’t use as much and barely come near 20GB.. This crap is same all over the world. someone need to make these dumb heads understand this.

  • Oh bhai ptcl
Aisay package de Jis se faida user ko hu ptcl ko nae, 2000 wala 1500 per kar do aur 4 MB rehnay 2! Paisa kamana asan nae hai

  • mera bill almost 2500 aata hai (onlyinterent use ,no phone calls ) but speed max 240 kb/s aati hai (abhi bhi yehi aarhai) anybody suggest me mera konsa package ,and bill according to the internet is justified ?? plz guide me as i dont know what the best for me ,Thanks anyway :)

  • Can anyone help me… I’m facing continuously
frequent disconnection of my broadband connection since last 8 months.. is
there any other way to resolve my issue cause I’m really pissed off to lodging complaints at 1218… pls anyone have any idea or any PTCL official person’s email
    id can help me out..???

  • Im facing strange issue with this 8 mb promo,
i am also using smart tv with dsl, and when i do downloading and my download speed reaches 600kbps my smart tv stop working and i can see scratches and freezing of channels.

anyone else having this issue and is their any solution for it?

  • Does anyone at ProPakistani even cares to manage the comments section? Whenever i post a useful link or something here, my post always go into “Pending” and is almost NEVER approved.

Its becoming really annoying now. <_<

  • Dears,
Tarlai Exchange,Islamabad Using 8 years old Optical Fibre which was repaired 20+ times. line now even support 4MB’s,once the same line were supporting 4MB with 900 kbps/sec speed.Customer Care is non-responsive, talking to exchange guys, simply says we already request management to replace line but infact they don’t even tell this issue to upper management.i contacted the higher management but they’re purely a bureaucratic thought people,we’re planning n planning.,but infact no planning. they are now given new lines from this lines to new Qutbaal Town. Shame is a small words for these black spots in PTCL.,Shameless People.

  • I am still stuck on 4mb connection. I talked with their online agent and he said that the conversion from 4mb to 8mb is automatic and whichever line supports it is automatically upgraded by system. So if mine is not upgraded, it “probably” means that my line does not support it.
I also went to their small sub-office in our city and he said these copper wires do no support 8mb :O while a friend of mine living near to me has 8mb with the same copper line.

    • guys at ptcl are fraud when the same offer was done for 2mb to 4mb my connection was upgraded 2 days before expiry of the offer. There is no such thing as automatic upgrade.i am still stuck at 4mb and not upgraded to 8mb yet despite having fiber optic line.

  • Excellent move by PTCL.Rates have been reduced for 8Mbps.Now competition is on between PTCL and 3G/4G operators. Those who will provide quality service will succeed.

  • PTCL downgraded my 4MB DSL to 2MB. I lodged complaint. Now PTCL “RUBBING SALT ON MY WOUNDS” by calling every hour and playing a recorded message that as per their record my problem has been solved.

  • SUPER JOKE!!!!
another trap. offer till Jan2015. Then 4mb back!!!!
I had 4mb before, upgraded to 8mb, my 2 month bill came like 14k with frequent disconnections.. Peetcl. what to expect?

  • what is the meaning of Billing Cap at Rs. 4,999/Month for 8Mbps — after this virtually unlimited downloads are allowed
bahi pls koi to bataoo ya keya hai what is meain of this line pls pls

  • i am from karachi and i am using witribe from two years and i want to upgrade my internet to ptcl 4 mb but when i see the reveiw and comments here so i am confused about its service so tell me about its server thank you
