Telenor Pakistan Announces its Representatives for Youth Summit 2014

Telenor Pakistan has announced Maaz Imran and Sadaf Amin as representatives from Pakistan at the second edition of Telenor Youth Summit 2014 in Oslo, Norway, which is being organized in collaboration with the Nobel Peace Center.

The two winners of the qualifying competition will also get a chance to attend the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony and Concert.

Telenor said that competition — that called Pakistani youth to submit their ideas — attracted over 800 entries towards bringing positive social change through the use of mobile communication and internet. As per the judging format, after three rounds of extensive evaluation, top 11 participants were called in to present their ideas to a panel of jury members including Salman Ansari, former advisor, Ministry of IT & telecommunications; Badar Khushnood, Google – Pakistan Country Consultant for Google Inc; Omer Bin Tariq, Director, Internet and Devices, Telenor Pakistan, Atifa Asghar, Director Corporate Communications and Responsibility, Telenor Pakistan and Sidra Iqbal, youth activist & TV Anchor.

The two winners – Maaz Imran and Sadaf Amin were triumphant for their ideas titled ’e Tution Hub’ and ‘Mobile Agriculture Farming Control System’ respectively.

Speaking at the winners’ announcement ceremony, Atifa Asghar, Director Corporate Communications and Responsibility, Telenor Pakistan lauded the enthusiasm of all the contestants and said;

“The competition has received an overwhelming response and we are delighted to observe many inspiring ideas and initiatives using digital communication for the betterment of society.

This platform is yet another testament of our vision to make the youth realize the full potential of internet by developing useful services that can provide opportunity to empower society and subsequently develop 3G ecosystem in Pakistan, taking us closer to our ambition of bringing ‘Internet for All’.

We congratulate the winners and wish them all the best for The Telenor Youth Summit in Oslo, Norway. This will definitely be an experience that they will remember for a lifetime,”

Expressing his delight, Maaz said, “Telenor Youth Summit is a great opportunity for me to represent Pakistan on a global platform.” Sadaf shared a similar sentiment. “I’m very excited to be a part of the Youth Summit and look forward to the extensive exposure and networking opportunity with a diverse group of peers”, he said.

The Telenor Youth Summit 2014, which will be held from December 9 to 11, is the second edition of Telenor Group’s global initiative. Youth from 14 different countries — where Telenor has its operations — are invited to this youth summit where they share their ideas and the best one is rewarded with an award and acknowledgement.

Telenor, however, is yet to decide on how to capitalize the winning ideas, as the execution part is still not on the agenda of the summit.
