Ookla has released their Net Index Explorer report for December 2014. The report takes a look at internet statistics across the world.
Pakistan, despite being near the bottom end of the rankings in most categories, has seen improvements in nearly all measured variables in the past year. Things have also take a turn for the better due to the introduction of 3G/4G. However, the work is still cut out for us as we still rank in the bottom 15% of all countries when it comes to internet speed.
Some important things to take away the report before you give you the statistics are that PTCL, which holds than 85% of the market share, has an average download speed of 3.63 Mbps. When it comes to mobile, Warid is firmly on top with average download speeds exceeding 5.19 Mbps.
Before you take this report for gospel, keep in mind that report is generated from data collected only through the Ookla speed tests, which are a de facto standard when it comes to measuring internet speed.
Despite the poor rankings, things have improved a lot over the course of the last 12 months. Average download speeds grew by 0.93 Mbps and average upload speeds improved by 0.66 Mbps compared to last year.

Things were always going to look remarkably better with the introduction of 3G and 4G and this shows in the report. Average download speeds increased by 3.05 Mbps and average upload speeds improved by 1.38 Mbps compared to December 2013.
