UNIDO, NUST Partner to Foster Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Energy

In what promises to be an exciting development for the nascent entrepreneurial ecosphere, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and NUST have entered into a partnership to promote clean technology innovation in the country.

With this partnership, both UNIDO and NUST will work towards building capacity of national engineering universities, R&D institutes and manufacturers of biomass gasifiers.

UNIDO Director General Mr Li Yong affirmed that an important determinant of economic growth is entrepreneurship and constant diversification thereby increasing trade, upgrading industry and technological innovation.

Primary focus of the partnership will be in the areas of energy, environment and related fields

He highlighted that his organization has a vision for promoting sustainable industrial development and therefore this partnership with NUST would prove to be very critical in increasing the role of renewable and sustainable energy within the overall energy mix.

There are multiple aspects of cooperation between UNIDO and NUST. These include advisory services, incubation support, research and development and clean technology innovation. The primary focus of the partnership will be in the areas of energy, environment and related fields.

Agreements like these are critical to expanding research and academic potential of local universities

It is certainly heartening to see collaborations between important international organizations and local universities in Pakistan. Renewable energy sources are critical for the country’s future as expensive generation of power through furnace oil is a heavy toll on our balance of payments. Furthermore, the capacity of local institutions like NUST will be enhanced as they are provided exposure to cutting-edge research and international academics.
