Sony has announced a couple of new additions to its Xperia line of smartphones. The new phones are what the company calls ‘super mid range’ and have a very heavy focus on taking good pictures whether they are selfies or your vanilla ones.
The Xperia M5 comes in a compact package with some features which would be more at home on a high-end smartphone.
It comes with a 13 megapixel 1080p camera at the front while the back boasts a 21.5 megapixel sensor, with lightning fast 0.25 second autofocus, LED, 4K video recording and f/2.2 aperture.
The front comes with a 5” display with 1080p display, which is fine for the display size. The M5 also comes with dust and water-proofing, thanks to IP65 and IP68 certification. More importantly, you get a capless USB port, meaning you won’t have to fiddle with your caps anymore.
Under the hood, you get a 2 Ghz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, with 3 GB RAM, 16 GB RAM and a microSD. You also get NFC, optional Dual SIM, LTE, Wi-Fi and GPS.
The phone runs on a 2,600 mAh battery with 2 days backup, runs on lightly-customized Android 5.0 Lollipop and features an OmniBalance design with metal on sides and glass on the back.
The new Sony Xperia C5 Ultra comes with a 13 megapixel camera on the front with flash, and a respectable feature set to back that up.
The back shares the 13 megapixel autofocus sensor of the front. The selfie shooter has a 22mm focal length for wider shots. On the front, the display is a spacious 6” unit with 1080p resolution. The design of the phone is quite stylish, owing to a thin 8.2mm profile and minimum bezels.
Under the hood, you get a 1.7 Ghz MediaTek MT6572 octa-core chipset with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage, expandable via microSD. Connectivity includes LTE, optional Dual SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and GPS. The phone has a 2,930 mAh battery for life of up to 2 days, and runs customized version of Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The phones will be released by mid-August worldwide. Pricing details are not known right now.
