You Can Transfer eSIMs to New Phones Up to 10 Times for Free: PTA

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman on Thursday clarified that mobile users in the country can transfer an eSIM from one compatible device to another free of charge up to 10 times.

Speaking during a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, PTA chief said the free transfer facility is intended to make eSIM adoption more convenient while users upgrade or replace their smartphones.

The regulator is also working to encourage wider use of eSIM technology. PTA recently disclosed that it is negotiating with mobile operators to reduce eSIM issuance charges from the current Rs. 2,000 to between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 1,500, with the expectation that prices will fall further as adoption increases.

Unlike traditional physical SIM cards, eSIMs are embedded directly into smartphones and can be activated digitally without inserting a removable SIM. The technology allows users to switch networks or devices more easily and is increasingly being supported by modern smartphones and other connected devices.
