Xbox One Owners Rejoice: Windows 10 Update is Rolling Out

Microsoft might have to make several amends for all the mistakes that the company has made during the past 12 months, but the following will help to begin the firm’s clean slating process. After several months of testing, along with a bunch of announcements, Xbox One has finally received an update for Windows 10. If you thought that this was the end of it, then you are sadly mistaken because apart from an all-new UI, there is also going to be a backwards compatibility option, allowing next generation console owners to start playing their Xbox 360 games on the current machine.

If you have an Xbox Live Gold membership, then you can effortlessly enjoy multiplayer gaming sessions with your friends irrespective of what console they happen to have. Xbox One to Xbox 360 cross-play over Xbox Live should work.

How to Install the New Xbox One Experience

If the majority of XB1 owners have set up their consoles to ‘Instant-On’ mode, then their machine should start updating and installing the ‘New Xbox One Experience’ without them having to go through the tedious process of doing everything on their own. The latest update is called OS version 10.0.10586.1006 and if you want to check if your console has been updated to the latest version, then you are going to have to repeat the following steps:

  1. Scroll left from Home to open the guide.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select All Settings.
  4. Select System.
  5. Select Console info & updates.
  6. Your OS version is located in the third row down on the right.
  7. Hit ‘Update’ if needed in case it hasn’t updated.

According to the details of the update, XB1 is also going to start accessing games for users much faster than before (up to 50 percent faster as compared to when it was running the previous update). In addition, you will also be able to share your screenshots and gaming clips much more easily with the Xbox Live community. Keep in mind however, that all of this will depend on the internet connection that you have setup in your household.

It is highly recommended that you pause all on-going downloads since they will obviously prevent the update from being downloaded and installed at a quicker pace. The update weighs in at a hefty 1.1 GB approximately, so make sure your internal hard drive has the storage space. If you happen to be in possession of an XB1, start your updating process right away and do tell us your experience after that.
