Cloud-based designing firm Canva has proposed organizing and funding a nationwide design competition to create a new brand identity for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
In a LinkedIn post on Monday, Canva General Manager for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ahmed Iqbal, said the company wants to engage with PIA’s management to discuss the initiative.
The proposed competition would cover the redesign of PIA’s logo, brand identity, aircraft livery, and relaunch marketing campaign. The goal is to involve the general public in shaping the airline’s new profile.
He said Canva is willing to sponsor the competition with substantial prize money.
The Canva GM said PIA has an opportunity to reinvent itself in 2026 by embracing local creativity.
He shared concept images of PIA aircraft featuring Ajrak-inspired artwork, created using Canva and its professional design suite. He said the mockups were produced by a non-designer and suggested the results could be even more impressive if opened to designers across the country.
The proposal generated mixed reactions on LinkedIn. Some users welcomed the initiative.
Several commenters also pointed out that most commercial airlines prefer white aircraft because they are easier to maintain and help reduce cooling costs.
