Today is another one of those days when internet speeds in Pakistan have slowed down due to a submarine cable outage, according to our ISP sources. So if your internet is slow or if you are getting too many timeout messages — especially if you are on PTCL — then you are not alone.
Reportedly IMEWE submarine cable, that connects Pakistan with rest of the world, is down and its bandwidth is now not available for Pakistani ISPs. According to details, IMEWE international submarine cable might remain down for another 7 to 15 Days from today.
Just in case if you are wondering, IMEWE is major submarine cable for Pakistan that transports more than two third of country’s internet bandwidth.
PTCL is major user of IMEWE, which means that if you are on PTCL then it is very likely for you to experience slow browsing, sluggish download speeds and high latencies.
PTCL has said that it is arranging additional bandwidth through other submarine cables to cater for unavailable IMEWE bandwidth capacity.
Pakistan’s current international links and bandwidth capacity include:
- TW1 with design capacity of 1.28Tbps
- Sea-Me-We-3 with 480 Gbps with two fibre pairs
- Sea-Me-We-4 with design capacity of 1.28Tbps
- I-ME-WEÂ with Design Capacity of 3.86Tbps
It’s a planned maintenance and not any unexpected fault.

experiencing slow speeds on Zong 4G MBB device since past two weeks in many areas in karachi..complained many times and come to know that karachi is affected these days..
Zong is just making fool of people. I am also on 4g MBB and the speed is pathetic.They have got hundred and one excuses. Only in Islamabad and some other cities, the speed is good and the rest is any body guess.

agreed I am the victim to past few weeks too. the signal strength has gone down and speed is slow, not as fast as it was supposed to be.
Same on Charji. Signals dropped and speed limited to 3Mbps. I think they have turned off several towers to cater low bandwidth issue or may be tower in my area is dead.

The timeline given is always like 10 to 20 days or a week etc, but mostly I have seen ISPs arrange alternate bandwidth in just couple of days and things start running smoothly..

Who is Indian spy who has allotted India Middle East Western Europe (I-ME-WE) OFC to Pakistan. These idiots do not know the intentions of India. This might have been intentionally broken to tell the world that Pakistan is still behind India. It may be noted that these days Indian IT is decaying and Pakistan has become No4 in the world in getting IT business. PTA is advised to remove connection on Indian OFC.
Yeah. I was also thinking the same. I don’t think sharks or other sea animals could damage these cables. This may have been intentionally chopped by Indian haramzaadey hindus. PK Navy should keep eye on the activity near these cables in sea.
I second you, how is it possible that sharks can damage a cable? it has to be India sending divers down hundreds of feet to the ocean floor and also using their submarines so that Pakistanis can’t watch their movies and soaps. They must have special divisions in raw dedicated to interrupting Pakistans internet……:p

Yes I’m using both ZONG and PTCL fiber 12 MB connection and both of these are not working for browsing.

This is a joke! I run a software house and in the past 72 hours we have lost a hell lot of money and our clients are frustrated.
We are now going to sue PTCL,Zong,UFONE ETC for their failure to notify us in advance regarding this outage.
If this situation prevails then we will be forced to move our business out of Pakistan.

My 9.3Mbps Evo nitro is working fine. PTCL DSL connection suffers during peak hours severely.

this is not a sudden outage this was supposed to be a planned maintenance that PTCL knew of but put customers in dark.
Apparently, it was an emergency maintenance activity.
PTCL is the worst company ever!! My 12 MB optical fiber net is slow as hell for the last 4 days I can’t even open some important work related sites yet they will charge me RS 5000 at the end of the month for the service they are not even providing.
It’s about time that ptcl customers should launch a class action law suit against this company.
