As the fight for distinctiveness in the smartphone sector continues, it is clear some companies are still focusing just as heavily on the numbers game as anything. The latest culprit is the new Vivo Xplay 5 Elite which comes with an absurd 6 GB RAM.
Though, fundamentally different, that’s more than most PCs in the world right now. The phone in question is the so-called “flagship edition”, with the peasant edition making an appearance later on.
It is also clear that design-wise it is inspired clearly by Samsung and Apple. Judging by the specs, too, it is clear where that inspiration is coming from.
The display at the front is a 5.43″ Super AMOLED with QHD resolution, and a 2.5D curved glass. It runs on aging Android 5.1 with a custom skin on top.
Underneath, you’ll get a Snapdragon 820 processor with 6 GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128 GB of storage. The back boasts a 16 MP f2.0 Sony IMX298 processor with dual-tone LED Flash, along with an 8 MP f2.4 sensor at the front.
There’s also a fingerprint scanner at the back, along with a good audio prowess, including “HiFi 3.0” system with 2 ES9028 DAC chips, as well as three OPA1612 amplifiers. Connectivity is rather lacking with no NFC or USB Type-C.
All these goodness and numbers cost, and the price here is a mere $655. The lowly non-elite will retail for $565 with Snapdragon 652 and “just” 4 GB of RAM. Again, the phone doesn’t break any grounds with what it brings, rather it focuses just too much on the numbers game.
If I was in the market for a phone like this, at least I would get something which wouldn’t get obsolete after six months by a phone with 7 GB RAM because that’s what Vivo is apparently aiming for here.

Farigh phone, useless ha ha ha………………..(i am in 2050), i am just speaking and my teledevice is interpreting and writing to a blog.
you high bro?
He’s down
he’s just a bit disorientated after knowing the price … thats all :D
will beat every phone in the market atm … this , mister , is the MOST POWERFUL phone in the market atm.
im sure its benchmarks will show that it beats all flagships at camera , computing and display. only the top end devices will rub shoulders with it like S7 or iphone 7 and Xperia XA.
If Apple or Samsung or any other popular brand had launched a phone with 6 GB RAM then it would have been revolutionary and taken the world by storm but since this is an unknown Chinese brand so 6GB ram is absurd now..
are u being sarcastic ?
i hope so…
And lollipop android 5.1 is aging? Even big phones still don’t have Marshmallow
Great phone with great specs. Hifi sound, ram, best processor, dual curve design. What else do u need? Writer of this thread sounds like CEO of apple
