Govt to Support Companies Investing in E-commerce Gateways: Anusha

Government will ensure all sorts of facilitation and support for any player wanting to invest in establishment of e-commerce gateways, said Anusha Rehman Khan, state minister for IT and Telecom.

As a core component of e-commerce value chain, the ecommerce gateways have unmatched potential in Pakistan’s booming online market. Anusha said that State Bank has already enabled PSP licensing framework in this regard.

Minister stated this during a meeting with high-level Chinese delegation at her office.

A statement released by ministry said that matters relating to e-Commerce promotion in the country were discussed. Federal Secretary IT Mr. Rizwan Bashir and Member Telecom Mr. Mudassar Hussain, were also present in the meeting.

Minister of IT apprised the delegates that “Pakistan’s IT & Telecom Sector has lot of potential and now we have to explore the ways to reap this possible mutual dividend from the tech sectors in an optimal way. We believe in “Digital Pakistan” and cooperation & collaboration of private sector will help us to materialize this vision of “accelerated digitization”.

While talking about e-commerce Anusha Rehman said that we are already collaborating with Ministry of Commerce for the development of e-commerce gateway framework so that online commercial ventures could flourish further and consumers & companies could get more confidence in online payment systems.

The Minister further said that, we are working on the agenda of ubiquitous development of ICT infrastructure across the country with special emphasis on serving marginalized (un-served/under-served) segment of the society. Due to these strenuous efforts, our broadband penetration has risen to more than 23% which was less than 3% in 2013.

The delegates appreciated the vision of the government and praised the initiatives being taken by the Ministry of Information Technology for the development of IT & Telecom sector.

  • online payment systems, is useful. I remember EFU payment I have to pay (on last date), its perfect. Alhamdolillah.

  • We could witness unprecedented growth in the ICT sector if we just replace the Minister of IT, her entire entourage and the useless bureaucracy in the Ministry of IT. We need a visionary capable of clear thinking. There is unlimited potential in this sector uncapped because of an inefficient and corrupt Ministry.

  • I am sure that the new cyber law and Axact fiasco are enough to demotivate any potential entrepreneur from venturing in Pakistan.
