STEM Visions Presented with STEM Excellence Award

STEM Visions After-School of Faisalabad was awarded the STEM Excellence Award the international STEM Expo in Branson, Mo. on October 11, 2016. STEM Visions was one of four recipients of this award during the October 11th Awards Session at the International STEM Education Association’s STEM Expo in Branson, Missouri.

The STEM Excellence Awards program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools whose faculty and administration have implemented a comprehensive integrated STEM education program at very high levels or have made significant progress or significant strides in achievement through the implementation of comprehensive STEM programs.

The STEM Excellence Awards sets a standard of excellence for all schools striving for the highest level of achievement in integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Each year, the International STEM Education Association seeks out schools where the faculty and administration have sought to attain and maintain high academic goals through the implementation of comprehensive and long-term integrated STEM education programs.

To be named a STEM Excellence Award recipient school is to join an elite group of educational innovators. Representatives from the school received a plaque honoring the achievement and a banner to be displayed in the school.

Today, Pakistan faces an educational crisis of unprecedented proportions. There are currently 24 million boys and girls who do not attend school—that’s nearly 50 percent of all children in the nation! Terrorism and school security are of grave concern as schools have been the target of many terrorist attacks.

In an attempt to fight back against these systemic issues, educational leaders in Faisalabad City started an afterschool STEM program designed to engage underprivileged children in hands-on STEM learning that focused on mathematics, science, technology and engineering. The program is offered to students in small villages and larger cities, with a special focus on inspiring young women to engage in the STEM fields.

Recently, the program has expanded to include a STEM summer camp to help all students engage in the STEM disciplines and have fun doing it! The STEM Excellence Awards serve as a standard of excellence for schools who promote integrated science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.
