PIA Names New Acting Chairman

The Establishment Division issued several transfer notifications and postings on Wednesday. Notification for the new PIA Chairman was amongst those as well.

Secretary, Civil Aviation, Irfan Elahi has been given an additional charge an will now act as the Chairman of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The previous PIA Chairman, Azam Saigol, resigned from his position on December 12th, following the unfortunate accident which resulted in the deaths of 48 passengers and crew of PK661. The flight was headed from Chitral to Islamabad.

The deaths included famous figures like Junaid Jamshed and Deputy Commissioner of Chitral. Excessive pressure from the media and the public forced the former Chairman to retire as the performance of the airline continued to decline under his leadership.

PIA has seen several scandalous incidents during the month of December, and we hope that the new PIA chairman takes this seriously and works for the betterment of the company.
