Xioami Releases the World’s First 4K 60 FPS Action Camera

Xiaomi is expanding its reach in categories other than mobile phones and it is not playing catch-up either. Its new 4K+ action camera is the first in the world to record 4K videos at 60fps.

That has been made possible through a brand new 14nm Ambarella H2 chipset (rather than A9 before) with its 4 ARM Cortex-A53 cores. Accompanying it is 2 GB worth RAM.

The sensor on the front is a 12.3 megapixel Sony IMX377 lens with a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor. It has support for features such as electronic image stabilization, RAW support as well as VR headset support.

Apart from 4K 60fps video, you can also record 1080p videos at 120 frames per second, or 720p at an incredible 240 frames per second.

The Yi 4K+ can be controlled with voice commands to start/stop a video or take photo while recording. A 2.91-inch touchscreen on the back can also be used as an alternative.

There is a solitary USB Type-C port on the camera, a clear sign that the technology is now expanding everywhere, which can transfer videos at 40 Mbps or get connected with external accessories, all of which from the older model are still supported. Otherwise, there’s dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, too.

A separate case will have to be brought with the 4K+ if you have to make it waterproof.

Xiaomi is pricing its latest Action camera at $199, not a surprise considering how the company usually prices its offerings compared to the market. Prices outside its home market will be likely higher though.
