In 2014, Elance Desk Annual Impact Report showed that Pakistan ranks as the 5th country in terms of freelancers with highest earnings. Freelancing has fast become a very viable alternative to conventional jobs and it is estimated that by 2020, one in three workers worldwide will be freelancing online.
To promote freelancing and build up the self reliance of the Pakistani workforce, CIIT Abbottabad held a one-day event called Freelancing Bootcamp 2017 last month. The event was sponsored by Payoneer, with Dr. Khan Gul Jadoon as the Chief Guest.
It saw freelancers and CIIT alumni take the center stage, which included Naqi Azam and Ehtesham Hameed. They shared their freelancing experiences to familiarize the audience with the pros and cons of freelancing.
Later on, a presentation was delivered by Mr. Usman Shahzada, Assistant System Analyst at CIIT Abbottabad, who elaborated on how you can become a freelancer and where can you start.
History, hiring process and operations of various marketplaces such as PeoplePerHour, Freelancer, Upwork and Fiverr were also discussed by Mr. Usman.
Towards the end of the event, certificates were distributed amongst the participants acknowledging their motivation to start freelancing.
