PTA Announces Good News for Internet Users

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed that the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable system has been restored, with internet traffic returning to normal across Pakistan.

According to PTA officials, the restoration of the SMW5 cable has resolved the internet disruption that had affected users since Thursday night.

Following the restoration, all internet traffic has normalized, and services are operating as usual.

The disruption was caused by a fault in the SMW5 submarine cable, which affected a significant portion of Transworld Associates’ (TWA) international IP transit capacity. During the outage, internet traffic was rerouted through alternate international links to minimise service degradation while TWA coordinated with the SMW5 Consortium to restore connectivity.

PTA worked closely with TWA and other stakeholders throughout the incident, monitoring the situation to support the earliest possible restoration of services.

With the SMW5 cable now fully operational, PTA officials have confirmed that internet services across the country have stabilized and traffic has returned to normal.
