The Punjab government has imposed a ban on 132 Punjabi songs used in theatre and stage performances, citing immoral, obscene, and double-meaning content.
According to an official notification issued by the Information and Culture Department, the ban will apply to all stage and theatre performances, including both private and commercial shows.
The notification states that the lyrics, verses, and music of the banned songs violate established SOPs. The decision has been taken in line with the Theatre Performance Policy issued on August 13, 2025.
The ban will remain in force until further notice, and authorities have warned that no leniency will be shown in case of violations.
All divisional and district arts council directors, deputy directors, and private theatre owners and producers across Punjab have been strictly instructed to ensure full compliance with the banned songs list.
Meanwhile, police have announced that the Sound Act will be strictly enforced during Basant. Individuals playing or listening to loud music will be arrested to maintain public order.
Police officials said the measures aim to prevent noise pollution and possible accidents during Basant celebrations. The public has been urged to follow the law and help maintain a family-friendly environment.
