Punjab Govt Clarifies that Careem, Uber Are Not Banned!

Punjab Government, that previously called Uber and Careem services as illegal, has now said that services are not suspended and that the matter will be resolved with-in next 15 days.

Through a brief note published on Facebook, the Punjab government said that directions for resolution of situation came directly from Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab.

Statement said that services were never banned, however, it didn’t say anything on what the earlier notification meant exactly as it had termed the services as “Illegal”.

Statement further said that Uber, Careem or other ride-hailing services will have to fulfill legal obligations. “Companies are required to get their drivers & vehicles registered”, it said.

Punjab government is hoping to get this task done within next 15 days as transport dept of Punjab will carry out the exercise while in collaboration with ride-hailing services.

Punjab Government said that sole purpose for the entire activity is public safety & to bring ride-hailing services in tax net.

Not to be mention, Sindh government had also issued a similar notification. It is expected that Sindh will undergo similar registration of ride-hailing services in the province as well.
