Fraud Arrested From PIA Flight That Was Diverted By RAF Jets in UK

On Tuesday, a PIA plane was headed from Lahore to Heathrow airport in London, UK when an anonymous phone call caused a major security alert. The plane was diverted to Stansted airport where it subsequently landed for inspection.

Bomb Alert

Local news sources claim that the cause of the diversion was a phone call. UK authorities received a call 30 minutes before the plane was supposed to land telling them about a bomb aboard the airplane.

The PIA plane was escorted by an Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets to the Stansted airport. RAF said that the incident was handed over to the police after the plane landed.

“Vague Security Threat”

PIA spokesperson Danyal Gilani issued a statement saying,

UK authorities received some vague security threat through an anonymous phone call regarding PIA s Lahore-Heathrow flight PK-757 before its landing at Heathrow, after which, as per their standard procedures the aircraft was diverted to Stansted airport.

Stanstead airport is used when dealing with hijacks or major security alerts. These incidents are dealt with on a remote part of the airfield, northwest of the terminal building.

Landed in The “Middle of Nowhere”

One of the passengers aboard the flight Naz Amin says that the plane landed in the middle of nowhere and was surrounded by the police. He said while talking to LBC Radio,

I realized it was surrounded by police and the police came on the plane about 45 minutes to an hour later and they took a gentleman off the plane. He wasn’t being disruptive at all, he was just sitting down… there was no-one being disruptive on the plane.

According to the local police one of the passengers named Khalid Baqa from Barkin, east London was going to be arrested at Heathrow airport but got arrested at Stanstead instead.

52 year old Khalid is a UK national and has been charged for committing fraud by false representation. He will be appearing at the Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court in London on February 23rd.
