DIG Motorway Police North Zone Abbas Ahsan has said that all SSPs, DSPs, operations officers and field staffers of N-5 North zone have been directed to check overcharging and overloading of passengers in public service vehicles (PSV), specially during Eid days.
He said all officers would go on surprise visits at all roads of N-5 North zone to ensure that extra charging and over-loading was not being carried out by the transporters.
Abbas Ahsan said all travelers who want to travel through GT road N-5 North zone to visit their native homes to celebrate the holy event of Eid-Ul-Adha should inform the NH&MP in case they face any hurdles and mistreatment from the transporters, said a press release issued yesterday.
Overcharging and Overloading on Eid
On this event, the DIG observed that transporters charge extra fares from the passengers and misbehave with them. Moreover, the tendency of overloading of passengers and goods by the transporters to earn more is also observed during the Eid vacations. The checking will be carried out at random at different locations.
On spot strict action, including returning of overcharged fare, should be taken against the delinquent transporters with heavy penalties levied against them. Warning banners/streamers containing messages about avoiding overcharging and overloading would be erected at different places.
DIG added that passengers should cooperate with Motorway Police and contact them on the Help Line 130 if any transporter charges extra fare or misbehaves with them.
Helpline and Assistant Squad
Except 130, 04 special control rooms have been established on GT road in N-5 North Zone to facilitate the road users.
DIG informed that 12 special squads would be deployed to counter the miscreants and to control crime during Eid-Ul-Adha vacations. One squad will serve in each beat, as most of the people carry valuables while traveling on G.T Road.
At the end DIG directed that free flow of traffic would be ensured so that road users reach their native homes safely to commemorate this holly event with their loving ones.
Meanwhile Islamabad Traffic Police is also running a campaign to educate commodores.
