LG V30 is Rugged, Bezelless & Might Have the Best Camera of 2017

LG’s reserved approach with the G6 was disappointing for a lot of fans. The phone didn’t feel extra ordinary or special in any way.

With the V30, LG has improved on all of that and more, in what looks like a larger, better version of the original G6.

At this time, LG has not mentioned the price and launch date of the phone.

Design and Display

As evident from the image, LG V30 looks similar to the S8 and S8+ released a few months ago.

Design wise its a larger version of the G6 with curved screen on the sides.

The back is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 (the cameras are protected by Gorilla Glass 4) with a fingerprint sensor placed at the familiar spot on the back.

LG V30’s display is a 6 inch P-OLED panel with Quad HD+ (2880 x 1440) resolution. The display is HDR 10 compliant so you can view some of the HDR content available on Netflix or YouTube.

Unfortunately LG removed the secondary display and replaced it with a floating bar with several customizable shortcuts.

The phone is IP 68 water and dust resistant and is MIL-STD-810 certified for shock, extreme temperature and drop resistance. The Hi-Fi Quad DAC makes a return from the V20, tuned to B&O Play headphones which LG says will be available in the box with V30.

Internals and Storage

With a flagship build comes a flagship chipset. The V30 has a Snapdragon 835 powering its internals with 4 GB RAM and 64/128 GB of internal storage. Storage is expandable via a dedicated microSD card slot.

The phone will be available in separate single and dual SIM variants. Android 7.1.2 takes care of the software side with a planned upgrade to Android Oreo at a later date.

For the audiophiles, LG has included support for MQA which lets you stream high quality audio files with minimal size and lossless quality.

Camera and Battery

We might have a contender for the best camera on a smartphone in the V30 this year. It comes with a dual 16 MP (f/1.6 with 3-axis OIS with laser & phase detection autofocus) and 13 MP (no autofocus) sensors. The latter is a wide-angle sensor, same as the one on G6.

You can take a look at the camera samples of LG V30 here.

Up front you have a regular 5 MP shooter on the V30.

Battery might be a tad too small with a 3,300 mAh unit (V20 had a 3,200 mAh battery). Quick Charge 3.0 is supported as well as wireless charging. Wireless charging may be limited to select markets only.

  • I sincerely hope these aren’t the final specs. 4GB RAM on Android these days is such a joke. And i really really hope they don’t release with 7.xx version Android.

    • It’s all official…. 4GB and 7.1.2
4gb is quite sufficient even in 2017
      Which phone are you using…?

      • Yeah, read it on Android Police a while ago :( Not really something i thought LG would do to their V Series. Now it’s just another Sammy inspired POS device, which NOONE should care about. And i also have reservations about the sound quality since their focus is somewhere else this time (Videos).

I’m using a OnePlus 3. Not the fastest, or the best … but for the price, it’s certainly one of the nicest i’ve ever owned.

        • LG v30 is best cellphone for listening.. I will definitely buy it… no one buy so price will drop soon… One plus 3 is OK till next year coz 8.0 oreo will be the last major update. Even now g6 is more compelling to buy than one plus 5…45k vs 55k

            • S7 Edge is awesome… Will get 8.0 next year.. But stay away from USA version it’s bootloader is locked u can’t update its software… If try to update it will get locked again to the carrier ..

    • Bhai k pass 12 GB RAM and 512 GB ROM wala cell phone h jO k inhO’ne khd develop kia h R android 8.0 h is k cell m..
Bs Chawle maarne de2 lOgO’n kO ptaa kuch hota nh h bss.
