Over 228,509 Passengers Traveled Through Pakistan Railways This Eid

Pakistan Railways made a windfall revenue of Rs. 48.54 million on Eid-ul-Azha over the weekend, said Minister of Railway.

Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that the government will soon launch an improved and comfortable train service for the people.

Upgrades Incoming

In a statement, he said Pakistan Railways is upgrading its trains and improving its performance. He also claimed that the punctuality of the Pakistan Railways’ employees has risen to 78 percent from 49 percent. Even though this is far from ideal, it is an improvement either way.

The Minister said that Railways earned additional 48.54 million rupees on the eve of Eid as compared to the corresponding period last year.

He said this year 228,509 passengers traveled through Railways during the three days of Eid, which shows the growing confidence of the people on Pakistan Railways. He said last year 196,796 passengers travelled through Railways.

It may be recalled that Khawaja Saad Rafiq had announced 25 percent special concession in railways’ fair during three days of Eid. Given that incentive, more people used PR to commute within the cities and spend time with their families during Eid-ul-Azha.

Millions Spent on Repairs and Maintenance

This is but a drop compared to the amount spent on the repairs for Pakistan Railway. According to official estimates, Pakistan Railway spent Rs. 554 million for repairs and maintenance since the last 4 years.
