Asus Zenfone V Is More Than Just Your Average Midrange Phone

ASUS has announced a new smartphone in its rapidly-increasing ZenFone lineup. The phone is sort of like a “super midrange flagship” with features from a midrange and a flagship smartphone. It comes in at a price of $384 and is unfortunately exclusive to Verizon.

Knowing Asus, you can expect a global version in the next few weeks.

Design and Display

The front comes with a curved 2.5D 5.2″ AMOLED display, still a rarity for the ZenFone line, with 1080p Full HD resolution. The Gorilla Glass is covered by oleophobic coating for easier cleaning, while Tru2life tech will allow more saturated colors.

There’s a fingerprint scanner embedded on the front as well. The phone also supports delivery of 24-bit high-resolution audio.

Internals and Storage

Under the hood, you get the now old, but still powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. There’s also 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable storage.

For the OS, Asus went with Android 7.0 Nougat with the company’s own ZenUI on top. The phone is single SIM due to being a Verizon exclusive. Expect the international version to be dual SIM, whenever it is released.

Camera and Battery

The back comes with a 23 MP Sony IMX 318 sensor with dual-tone LED Flash and f/2.0 aperture.

It features electronic and optical image stabilization as well as TriTech technology combining laser, phase detection and subject tracking autofocus into one. This allows the phone to focus in just 0.03 seconds.

The front camera uses an 8 MP shooter.

As for the battery, Asus has packed a 3,000 mAh unit into the Zenfone V with fast charging support. It can charge up to 60% in less than 40 minutes.
