Google Honors Noor Jehan with a Doodle on Her 91st Birthday

Pakistani users of Google had quite the pleasant surprise today.

The search engine stepped in today and changed its doodle to honor the late Pakistani singer, Madam Noor Jehan, keeping up with its tradition to mark memorable events all over the world.

About Madam Noor Jehan

Today would have marked the 91st birthday of the iconic singer- Madam Noor jehan. Google honoured the late music legend by dedicating a doodle to her on its homepage.

The doodle captures Madam Noor Jehan in purple attire, her chin lifted up, her hand flung out, a memorable flower on one side of her hair and a choker around her neck. The doodle contains an awestruck replica of her Dildar Sadqay Lakh Waar Sadqay performance on PTV.

Journey of the “Queen of Melody”

Noor Jehan was adopted as a stage name by Allah Rakhi Wasai, born on September 21, 1925.

Best known for her melodious voice across the world, she was often called as the “Malika-e-Taranum” (Queen of Melody). Her voice was one that captivated the hearts of millions across the whole of South Asia.

Her contribution to art and history of Pakistan is unforgettable and unmatched. She was awarded with the titles of Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence), and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence), by the government of Pakistan.

She was not only a melodious singer but also an accomplished actress starring in many TV shows as well as movies.

The prolific singer also has the honor of being the first female Pakistani film director. She helped co-direct Chan Wey, a hit musical film in 1951.

She recorded about 10,000 songs in various languages from both India and Pakistan, including Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and Sindhi and left a mark on the hearts of many.
