Few companies so dutifully check all the boxes as Asus has done with its ZenBook Pro UX550. The new laptop comes with pretty much all the specs you’ll want in a no-nonsense high-end machine and the company charges an appropriately high price for it.
The NanoEdge display on the front is a 15.6-inch panel with Full HD 1080p resolution. It is also touch-enabled with optional ASUS Pen accessory, and supports viewing angles of up to 178-degrees. The shell is 18.9 mm thick and it weighs only 3.97 pounds.
The aluminum chassis features a glass trackpad with a fingerprint scanner onboard for added security. Windows 10 onboard allows you even further protection via Windows Hello.
Processor, GPU and Storage
Under the hood, you get the powerful 7th-generation Intel i7-7700HQ processor with 16 GB DDR4-2400 RAM. The storage is handled by similarly-fast 512 GB PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD. As for the graphics, there is the appropriately-powerful GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics chip from Nvidia with 4 GB of VRAM.
Wireless connections are handled by Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2×2 and Bluetooth 4.2. For wired connections, you get two fast Thunderbolt 3 ports with USB-C connections, 2 conventional USB-A 3.0 ports, HDMI 1.4 for external connections, a microSD reader, 3.5mm audio-jack and Harmam Kardon-certified quad-speaker setup.
Battery and Pricing
The battery unit is of 73 Whr capacity, which can get you up to 14 hours of life. Thanks to Asus’ fast-charge technology, you can fill it up to 60 percent in just 49 minutes.
The pricing starts at $1699, which is about what you’d expect from a notebook of this calibre. It will be available from October 13th in international markets.
Sure, there are similarly-powered options at a lower price-tag, however few of them come close to Asus’ design prowess which is on full display here. There’s also likely little choice to upgrade to a slightly-more powerful setup.
