On Saturday, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah approved a bill to increase his own salary by more than 300%.
Salary, medical facilities, and other allowances of each MNA of the Sindh Assembly have also increased from Rs. 72,600 to Rs. 145,000 per month with effect from July 1, 2017.
Previously chief minister’s salary was Rs. 35000, which has topped up to reach Rs 150,000 now. In addition to Rs 150,000, the other allowances, including rent and maintenance, are Rs 140,000.
Basic Pay of MPA’s and advisers has increased from Rs 30,000 to Rs 75,000 (excluding the allowances)
In addition to this, the income of the speaker Sindh Assembly has also been increased from Rs 80,000 to Rs 150,000. The deputy speaker is to receive a total of Rs 140,000 instead of Rs 70,000.
“Earlier, each MPA got Rs 24,000 as basic salary which has now been increased to Rs 50,000,” an official said. Adding that amount of Rs 24,000 with total allowance, becomes Rs 145,000.
The resolution came after the Sindh provincial assembly approved a bill for an increase in the salaries of it’s members. Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro defended his statement of passing this bill by saying, “The decision is being made in view of the skyrocketing prices of committees. Last time, our salaries were increased in 2013, so we deserve the raise.”
It must be mentioned that despite resigning, many MPAs still receive salaries and about 50 MPAs have not spoken a word in Sindh Assembly in over three years.
