Foreign Tourist Numbers Increase as PTDC Ramps Up Efforts

Pakistan is starting to attract a large number of foreign tourists as the country has a variety of tourist products for visitors from all over the world, said Managing Director PTDC, Abdul Ghafoor.

Mountains, white water sports and hiking areas in Pakistan are ideal for adventure tourists and valleys, deserts or beaches for nature lovers. Buddhist heritage sites of Gandhara, Sikh sacred shrines, Hindu holy temples, Indus valley civilization sites are best-suited for pilgrims, scholars and students, he added.

He said that the tourism sector has been categorized into different types, based on religion, adventure, sports and health tourism.

PTDC is delighted to host an increasing influx of foreign tourists. If tourism is promoted in a sustainable manner, there will be no threat of terrorism.

The improved law and order situation in the country has certainly paved the way for positive changes to come, including a healthy influx of international visitors to Pakistan.

Tourism is the only sector, after foreign affairs, which can bring people of different countries together, leaving negative perception in the dust. It also helps in creating a blend of new cultures acceptable for existing communities and bringing in foreign exchange to the country.

He said PTDC would introduce tourist visa policy for groups and increase frequency of flights. The corporation would also assist in increasing interaction between public and private sector tourism organizations and encouraging participation in tourism exhibitions and conferences.
