The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has urged the government to take immediate action against fuel smuggling, warning that around six million litres of illegal oil enter Pakistan every day, causing heavy losses to the economy and the country’s energy sector.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the downstream oil industry’s representative body said every litre of smuggled fuel undermines Pakistan’s energy future while hurting legitimate businesses operating in the country.
According to the OCAC, fuel smuggling results in an estimated annual loss of up to Rs. 280 billion to the national exchequer through tax evasion and unfair competition.
The organization said the illegal trade is weakening the formal petroleum sector and reducing government revenues.
The council called for swift and stringent enforcement measures to dismantle the illegal fuel supply chain, warning that continued delays would further strengthen the smuggling network.
It stressed that curbing oil smuggling is essential to ensuring fair competition, protecting legal businesses, and strengthening Pakistan’s energy security
