Facebook Messenger Introduces Group Calls

Facebook Messenger will now let you add more than one people in an on-going video chat.

Last month, Facebook announced a few important updates for its apps. Messenger’s user interface has also received some tweaks that make it easier to use.

Facebook Messenger Finally Does Group Chats

Messenger’s “Add Person” icon now lets you add more people to an ongoing one-on-one video call, without the need of hanging up the first one.

Messenger Add Person Update

Previously, if someone wanted to add other people in an on-going call, they would have to disconnect the call and then start a group conversation again. You won’t need to do that any more.

How to Use the Update

Just tap on the screen, click on the ‘+’ icon and you’ll see a list of your friends to choose from and add to a call.

For video calls, you can still use the AR face filters. Also, the first person you called will remain in contact with you without any glitches.

As a neat extra, when you end the group call, all of the participants will be directed to an automatically created chat group.

Just press the back key if you don’t want to be part of the automatically-created chat group.

The feature has already been made a part of Facebook Messenger’s Android and iOS apps. It is rolling out as we speak, so check back for an update later if it isn’t showing up for you now.

Emoji Update

Earlier, Messenger was updated with the “Your Emoji” feature, which showed your status as Emojis. The emoji status feature was similar to ‘Stories’ which were displayed next to your Messenger Profile Picture for up to 24 hours.
